- Advising
music schools and towns
This
department has both administrative and educational
competencies. Its attributions range from educational advice
for the schools to the administrative follow-up of the
trainee’s grant applications for early musical learning,
musical training, instrumental disciplines and singing. Since
autumn 1993/1994, the schools also have help for the
collective practice classes like chamber music and orchestra
classes.

- Training
programm
Twelve hundred music
school teachers have the benefit of the training sessions
organised by the CDMC. A Department Training Plan, made up of
thematic sessions is offered them each year in order to allow
them to broaden their musical knowledge and experiences. This
program is completed with long training cycles for conducting
– conducting of wind sections with percussion, instrumental
ensembles or concert-bands, as well as for certain
preparations for the State Music Teacher Diploma.

- Human resources
The CDMC is in charge of the career of about 600 music school
teachers of the Haut-Rhin, becoming for this reason the first
cultural employer of the Département and thus allowing them a
free access to continuous education. Within this scope, it
liases with the associative or municipal music schools as well
as with all other institutional partners in the field of
personnel management (Social Security, pension funds,…).

- Special
events
Within
the scope of large-scale educational projects, the CDMC
organises or supports concerts, master-classes,… It also
carries out various actions aiming to promote both the
instrumental disciplines and the musicians themselves, in
particular by putting forward young talents. So it started
1995 a cycle of biennial international contests entitled
“Prestige des Cuivres “(Prestige of the Brass
Instruments). The first edition was devoted to the trumpet,
the second one to the tuba, and the next ones will be to
the trombone and to the horn.
Finally,
hundreds of concerts are organised in partnership with local
associations, especially in retirement
homes.

- Music
Information Centre
As
a continuation of its other activities, the CDMC wanted to
give the trainees, teachers, musicians and conductors a
structured information tool, which would fit their needs. This
Musical Information Centre hinges on two main axes : the
musical education and the repertoire for wind orchestras. All
types of documents are available : from encyclopaedias to
CD-ROMs, with periodicals, monographs, but mainly scores and
audio recordings. The computer based catalogue allows an easy
use of these collections, offering the musicians fast and
efficient research tools.

- The
future
Since
the associative world is in a perpetual change, the CDMC
continuously carries out prospective studies. Various
commissions think, suggest directions and actions that will be
in charge of ensuring the future of the musical movements.
